Walking to Rivendell: End of Week 200
Jan. 16th, 2010 09:30 pmWelcome to Week 200! And congrats to edward_stanford, koralleen, and ednoria for making it there. Also, I should have mentioned last week that silmaril has reached the 4 year mark -- she's a few weeks ahead of us.
Other than that, it's been a pretty slow week. Our long walker istacnukesoul, with over 15 miles. If only he could count all the miles he's logging getting things ready for the Steampunk Ball, he'd probably be getting a couple new shields this week!

Jan. 13th, 2010 02:48 pmFirst and foremost, congratulations to edward_stanford, who has reached Isengard and is now off to Minas Tirith. That'll take him a while, and we all hope he doesn't break a leg on the way, because I hear that slows you down a lot. Remember to stay away from the Paths of the Dead -- who in their right mind would go THAT way???
We're at nine walkers now, same as the Fellowship, sincelandkurt has dropped off the list. Which means our average mileage jumped ahead a bunch, again. In fact, it's made it to the Morannon, watched Mount Doom erupt, and since it already did the trip back to Minas Tirith before, I sent it directly back to Rauros to travel with Aragorn. It's gone quite a ways already. I know I said I was thinking of stopping the weekly updates, but no need for anybody else to drop out and make my job any easier, ok?
Long walkers this week? None. It's been a might cold for long walks. And icy too.
As of this Friday, we'll be at week 200! And just a few hundred miles shy of 30,000 miles.

I'm sure she'll have a splendid trip, especially since the Elves packed all those goodies (Hey, anyone seen the lembas? They were right over by the hobbits...).

Perhaps she can catch up with our average mileage, which is only 10 miles or so ahead of her. Good luck! We'll be waiting to hear how it turns out! (Oh, and silmaril, if you could update your Shields page, that would help me out. Thanks!)

Since at least a few people would like to see this continue, I'm trying to figure out a way to simplify it so it's not quite as much of a chore every week. I must admit, I'd miss doing it too. I'll let you know what I come up with.
I'm guessing the trivia questions were too difficult (I'm so disappointed in you,edward_stanford!) so I'll definitely save a bit of time by not thinking of new ones. If you have no mileage, you'll just have to endure a blank description. Mwa ha ha!

Well boys and girls, I'm thinking that after the end of this year, I will either stop doing these updates completely, or at least cut down on the info I provide to make it a little easier on myself. Right now it takes me over an hour to collect the data, put it in a readable form, and tweak whatever needs it. Our group is shrinking, too (down to 12 now). So perhaps the heyday of the Middle Earth Adventurers Club has come and gone.

Happy three-years-on-the-road togiraffeaholic! And some of that was done while carrying a very wiggly baby. Many kudos to her hubby lonebear as well, for hitting the 3000 mile mark! That's pretty darn amazing. To put that in perspective, New York to San Francisco is about 2930 miles. So I guess he's now on his way back. :-)

G is for Gandalf, his gray robes all torn
G's also for Gimli, with axe he can't sheath
L is for Legolas, bow always drawn

P is for Pippin, who steals Maggot's corn

Our Fellowship's broken, your loss we will mourn
Next I believe I'll do trivia. One question per person with no mileage. Anything in Middle Earth is game. Look for people with zero mileage to find the questions, and comment here if you've got the answer(s). Bonus points if you don't have to look them up! Perhaps there will be a prize, if I can think of a good one.
